Just yesterday, Donald Trump became only the third president in United States history to be impeached. Joining Andrew Johnson (1868) and Bill Clinton (1998-1999), Trump is now part of an elite class of presidents, those believed to have broken the law or abused their power. But, in all honesty, why is Donald Trump being impeached? Did he abuse his power? And if so, what does this mean for America?

The grounds for impeachment were lain in Article One of the United States Constitution, giving the House of Representatives the power to impeach a President and the Senate the power to try the accused in a court of law. Should both proceedings pass, the President will be removed from office. To date, the United States has successfully impeached two presidents; Andrew Johnson for violating the Tenure of Office act (firing an official without the Senate’s permission) and Bill Clinton for sexual abuse allegations. Donald Trump was impeached for two articles of office abuse, and another for obstructing Congress. He is accused of abusing power by attempting to pressure Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating potential Presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Trump is also accused of pressuring Zelensky into investigating potential Ukrainian interference with the 2016 United States elections. Although these are serious charges, one cannot help but wonder- why impeach Trump over this, when the last President to be impeached was accused of major sexual abuse crimes. When reading about the impeachment query, many people laugh it off, believing it impossible to successfully impeach Trump. Thankfully, they are correct. It is very unlikely that the Senate will vote for the impeachment, and the trial for Trump will likely prove inconclusive. Unfortunately, they miss the entire purpose of this query. The Democrats’ goal is not to impeach Trump, but to rather reduce his time in office. With the black mark of impeachment hovering over President Trump, many correctly state that the odds of him winning the next United States election are even slimmer then the odds of the Patriots winning the Super Bowl- next to none.

So, instead of attempting to actually impeach Trump, the Democrats have actually managed to besmirch his name, removing any chance he had of winning the next election. A terrible blow for the Republicans? Yes. A genius move by the Democrats? Absolutely.

With Donald Trump basically gone and the Republican name dirtied, the following year will possibly become one of the most interesting and grieving years in American history. To date, not one impeached President has been able to win his second election, a record that will most likely stand. With the likelihood of Donald Trump’s reemergence being essentially zero, the Democrats are poised to take office yet again. This could mean complete catastrophe for the United States, as the last time a Democrat took office (Barack Obama), homosexual laws were passed and chaos began.

With that being said, there is nothing to do but hope that the Republicans can win the next election. A second win would effectively reverse the damage done by Barack Obama’s two terms in Office and would hopefully help implement new measures beneficial to Christians everywhere. This event is massive, one that will go down in history. I strongly advise each and every one of you to do further research into this topic. I will continue to keep you updated.
