Who am I? What am I here for?

Who am I? What am I here on this earth for? What am I?

These are all crazy questions to ask oneself. Well, I will try my best to answer those. To start, my name is Elisha McFarland. I am 16 years old, 6’0, and live in Uganda. I have been an MK in Uganda since I was about 10 months old, to work with orphans in a ministry called New Hope Uganda. I love sports, especially Basketball and American Football (Here we go Steelers, here we go!). My best friend is a boy named Johnny, who is rather a brother. Friends can go, but brothers are forever. Anyway, I have known him since I came to Uganda. I have 5 siblings- 3 boys, and 2 girls, aged 13, 11, 9, 5, and 3. I also have blue/green eyes, dark blond hair, and love to wear red clothes. (I think you can guess my favorite color).

Even though I grew up in a Christian family, I came to the Lord in 2014, when I was 11 years old. I knew who God was, but I did not truly know him until then. When I did come to the Lord, I had been talking to my dad about some of the deeper questions about God (“how is God 3, and yet 1? Who is the more important? Why did Jesus die?”). I decided to give my life to him, and 3 months later I was baptized. I take no shame in the fact that I was baptized in an old fish pond, used by our ministry. Most Americans are baptized in a clean, beautiful baptismal, but me? I was baptized like Jesus: In a smelly, unclean body of water. Amen, eh?

I was baptized my both my father and my grandfather. Since then, God has been the focus of my life (after that is sports, school, and my family, not in that order), as well as getting to know Him and His word. I love God with all my heart and praise him daily for my parents. Now, growing up knowing hundreds of kids who never knew their parents, I have learned to appreciate my parents. If God wills it, then he could take them from me in an instant. So, I learn to never take my parents for granted. They are a gift!

Well, that answers what am I. Now, why am I here on this earth? I believe that God has put me here on this planet in this spot in order to serve Him and bring His Word to those who do not know it. I believe he has put me here to be a missionary.

Who am I? I am Elisha McFarland, servant of the High King. I am a Christian, and I love the Lord. I love Lecrae, and what he stands for. Unashamed. YES! That is what I am called to do. Be unashamed. I stand for truth.

I am a Yellow Belt in Karate. While I was in the US, I did karate and Taekwondo for 5 months. Way awesome. Nothing like it, really. Any more surprises up my sleeves? Well, I love the Chicago Bears (because if I didn’t, then the next time I go to Chicago then I would be stoned by my relatives), eat white ants (occasionally, but only because some people here make them), and am allergic to milk. (mango sorbet is legit, though). Anything else? I can’t think of anything. However, if I do, then don’t worry! I will think of them and publish them in a later blog.

I love fiction books. Percy Jackson, The Ranger’s Apprentice, Arcane, Wars of the Realm, and The Hunger Games are all awesome books. Trust me guys: If you haven’t read any of these, then please do. They are all worth a read.

I collect Pokémon cards. In fact, I started most of my friends in them too, but now only a couple of them still collect the cards (why, Taylor? why bro? et tu, Brute?) Nah just kidding dude. No problem. All of us are entitled to our own choices. Still, though, I have a ton of cards, if you want any…. Yeah, I have over 300 cards. Altogether, my collection is probably worth about $400. (If you live near me, then don’t get any ideas about stealing them…. I hide them very well). I watch the shows when in the US and play Emerald and Leaf Green on my computer. Love those games.

I don’t really have any childhood heroes. As a kid, I loved Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher, who was an awesome guy, but he wasn’t really a role model…. just a cool player. However, one person that comes close to being my current role model is Lecrae.
He has gone through some tough, dark stuff (like me but not to his level), and he pushed through. He is a man of God and an awesome guy. Even my dad loves him, and you know how parents can be…. no taste in music sometimes….. So yeah, there ya go. That’s me.

Oh, and one more thing: I want to give a shoutout to Ariana Evans, a wonderful friend who helped me create this website. She has given me incredible advice and counseling throughout the blog’s creation, and I really appreciate it! Check out her blog here.

  2. I am from the US, and I completely agree with you about dating! I don’t think that God approves with the way boys (who want the privileges of men and not the responsibilities) lust after girls when they still act like children themselves. The average male in the US doesn’t grow up until he is 30! Insane, right?
They want to hang out with a girl when they don’t even have enough money to support her!
There are so many things wrong with modern dating! I could go on for hours!
    Literally, I could! 🙂
I really like your blog, keep writing!

      1. Oh my gosh!!!!
This is so ironic, because I’m part of this writing roleplay group and I had a 17 yr old boy 6 foot 6 inches and I was told several times that was unrealistic and ended up changing it to 6 foot 2 inches and now I’m totally regretting it now that I know it can actually happen at that age.
